Basic Concept

In addition to reducing the environmental impact of our business activities, we also aim to reduce the environmental impact of our products throughout their entire life cycle, including when they are used and recycled at our customers' sites. By acquiring third-party verification such as the SuMPO EPD, we believe that we can be easily selected by our customers and thus contribute to reducing the environmental impact of society as a whole.

Development of Eco-friendly Products and Services

Although steel is a material that can be recycled semi-permanently, the entire life cycle of steel, including manufacturing, distribution, use, disposal, and recycling, has an environmental impact, such as the generation of CO2. Our group has acquired environmental certification to produce eco-friendly products and services with reduced environmental impact and to allow our customers to make objective judgments. We will continue to maintain reliability and transparency while balancing the environment and management.

A brand of eco-friendly steel products +Green

+Green is a steel product that we have offset the remaining GHG emissions that cannot be reduced by our own efforts through the environmental value of forest-derived carbon credits and renewable energy certificates of biomass power generation.
Information on the GHG emissions and the environmental value used to offset GHG emissions of our products will be listed on the “+Green Certificate” that we issue and provided to our customers.

SuMPO EPD-certified Products

Yamato Steel has obtained SuMPO EPD certification under the SuMPO Environmental Label Program managed and operated by the Sustainable Management Promotion Organization (SuMPO) and has published its Climate Declaration.
Yamato Steel is the first company in the steel industry in Japan to publish both EPD and Climate Declaration.

What is SuMPO EPD?

The SuMPO EPD is a scheme that calculates, evaluates, and discloses the environmental impact of products and services throughout the value chain, from raw material procurement to manufacturing, using the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method.
It complies with ISO 14025 standards, and an EPD can only be obtained after passing third-party verification, ensuring reliability and transparency.

What is the Climate Declaration?

The Climate Declaration extracts and discloses only the environmental impact on global warming (carbon footprint) based on the results of the LCA results calculated during the EPD process.
