2025/12/17Yamato to Invest in Australia-based “Salix” – Accelerating Global Expansion of its Trackwork Products Business
Yamato Kogyo (“Yamato”, headquarter: Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture / Representative Director and President: Mikio Kobayashi) has agreed to acquire a 50% equity interest in Salix Products Pty Ltd. (“Salix”), a turnout manufacturer headquartered in New South Wales, Australia from Martinus Group Holdings Pty Ltd. (“Martinus”). Martinus will retain the remaining 50% equity interest and Yamato and Martinus will operate Salix as a 50:50 joint venture company. Following completion of the investment, Salix will become an equity-method affiliate of Yamato.
In addition to its steelmaking business, Yamato operates a trackwork products business that includes turnouts and tie plates. The investment marks a strategic step in expanding this business in the global railway market.

Salix is a fabless engineering company specializing in the design and supply of trackwork products, particularly turnouts. It is a subsidiary of Martinus, a global rail infrastructure construction group. Leveraging strong engineering capabilities in international standards such as EN standards, Salix has built a solid track record of delivering integrated services, from design and quality management through to final delivery, for major railway operators in Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and other markets.
Through Salix, Yamato will strengthen its ability to supply products that comply with international standards and meet the needs of overseas railway projects. Collaboration with Martinus as a joint venture partner, together with access to its global customer network, will further enhance Yamato’s reach in international markets. Through these initiatives, Yamato expects to steadily expand the business scope of its trackwork products business and achieve sustainable medium- to long-term growth.
Yamato remains committed to advancing the technological foundation and global development of its trackwork products business. Building on the quality standards and technical expertise cultivated in Japan, Yamato will continue contributing to the development of safe, reliable and high-quality railway infrastructure worldwide, while reinforcing its business platform for sustainable growth.
