2023/08/31当社海外グループ会社による環境認証取得のお知らせ

大和工業株式会社（本社：兵庫県姫路市、代表取締役社長：小林　幹生）のタイの連結子会社Siam Yamato Steel及びベトナム関連会社POSCO YAMATO VINA STEELが米国の国際認証機関ULから「環境製品宣言」（EPD: Environmental Product Declaration）をそれぞれ取得しました。タイ・ベトナムの鉄鋼メーカーとして同機関からEPDを取得したのは初となります。

これらのEPDは、原材料調達から製品出荷までを対象に、ISO14025に基づいたLCA（ライフサイクルアセスメント）手法を用いて定量的な環境情報を算出し第三者認証を受けたもので、米国LEEDに代表されるGreen Building認証において加点要素になります。昨今では設計段階からEPDを活用して建築物のEmbodied Carbonを削減する動きも生まれています。このように、お客様はEPDを参照することで、使用する製品毎の環境負荷を定量的かつ客観的に評価することができ、環境に配慮した製品を購買する上での判断材料となります。

Notice of Acquisition of Environmental Certification by Overseas Group Companies

Yamato Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture; Representative Director, President: Mikio Kobayashi), has received Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) from UL, an international certification organization in U.S., for its consolidated subsidiary in Thailand, Siam Yamato Steel, and its affiliated company in Vietnam, POSCO YAMATO VINA STEEL. This is the first time for a steel manufacturer in Thailand and Vietnam to obtain an EPD from UL.

These EPDs are third-party certifications based on quantitative environmental information calculated using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method based on ISO 14025, covering all stages from raw material procurement to product shipment and are given points for Green Building certifications such as LEED in U.S., and recently there has been a movement to reduce Embodied Carbon in buildings by utilizing EPDs from the design stage. In this way, customers can quantitatively and objectively evaluate the environmental impact of each product they use by referring to EPDs, and use this information to make decisions when purchasing environmentally friendly products.

Yamato Kogyo Group is focusing on the development of “Eco-friendly Products” as one of its materiality under the Medium-term Sustainability Plan.
