2023/08/04（9月27日 追記）当社加盟の国際団体「Global Steel Climate Council」が鉄鋼産業の脱炭素化を促すべく、業界基準を策定・公表

大和工業株式会社（本社：兵庫県姫路市、代表取締役社長：小林　幹生）が会員として加盟する「Global Steel Climate Council」（以下、GSCC）は、2022年11月の設立以降、拡大を続けており、 北米、欧州、その他地域の鉄鋼メーカー・協会、その他鉄鋼サプライチェーンに関わる団体から成り、世界79カ国で活動しています。

本年8月3日、GSCCは温室効果ガスの削減目標を示した業界基準「The Steel Climate Standard」を策定し、公表しました。同基準は、鉄鋼製品内に包含される温室効果ガス排出量の測定・報告要領及び、パリ協定が目標として掲げる1.5℃シナリオを実現する為に鉄鋼産業が達成すべき目標を示したものです。本年4月の草案公表後のパブリックコメント期間には各ステークホルダーから様々なコメントが提出され、今回の基準策定に活用されております。

尚、現在当社にて「The Steel Climate Standard」の日本語版を作成中であり、完成次第本HP上に掲載いたします。

今後、GSCCは各国政府や鉄鋼需要家、その他ステークホルダーに対して本基準の浸透を促し、賛同を得るべく働きかけを行っていく予定であり、当社も加盟メンバーとしてこの活動を支援してまいります。なお、タイの連結子会社Siam Yamato Steel及び米国関連会社Arkansas Steel Associates LLCもGSCCに加盟しております。

当社グループは、持続可能な社会の実現に貢献すべく、グループ一体となってサステナビリティ経営に注力しています。2020年にはCSR委員会（現・サステナビリティ委員会）を設置、また本年3月には「サステナビリティ基本方針」および「国内2030年/2050年環境Vision」を開示するなど、気候変動をはじめとする各種課題への取り組みを一層強化し、持続可能な社会の実現と当社グループの持続的成長・企業価値の向上を目指してまいります。

The Global Steel Climate Council, an international coalition of which Yamato Kogyo is a member, has established a new standard to guide the decarbonization of the global steel industry.

Yamato Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture; Representative Director, President: Mikio Kobayashi) is a member of the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC), which has been expanding since its establishment in November 2022. The GSCC currently consists of steel manufacturers, associations, and other organizations in the steel supply chain in the North America, Europe, and other countries, and has a presence in 79 countries around the world.

On August 3, GSCC developed and released a new industry standard, “The Steel Climate Standard,” which outlines the greenhouse gas reduction targets in line with the goal of the Paris Climate Agreement to achieve a 1.5º C scenario, in addition to the standards for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions contained in steel products. After the release of the draft version in April of this year, many of the submitted comments from stakeholders were utilized in the finalization of this standard.

For the better understanding of stakeholders, we are currently preparing a Japanese version of this standard, which will be posted on our website as soon as it is completed.

The GSCC will work with governments, steel customers and other stakeholders to promote the adoption of this standard and gain their endorsement, and as a member of the GSCC, we will support this activity. Our Thai subsidiary, Siam Yamato Steel, and our U.S. affiliate, Arkansas Steel Associates LLC, are also GSCC members.

In order to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society, Yamato Kogyo has been working as one group to promote sustainability management. We established the CSR Committee (now the Sustainability Committee) in 2020, and disclosed our “Sustainability Policy” and “Domestic 2030/2050 Environmental Vision” in this March to further strengthen our efforts to address climate change and various other issues, aiming to realize a sustainable society and enhance the sustainable growth and corporate value of our group.
